A note on privacy
Joining the conversation.
Reading writing, courses, projects, and the resume does not require an account. Optional Google sign-in can sync your course progress and identify you when commenting. Guest commenting remains available.
Course progress and bookmarks
Without sign-in, completed lessons, bookmarks, and your last visited lesson are stored in this browser’s local storage. Other devices do not receive them. With sign-in, the same learning information is stored privately in Cloudflare D1 against your verified Google account identifier. It is never included in public comments or visible to another reader.
Browser progress is imported into an account only when you choose “Import this browser’s progress” in My learning. Signing in does not automatically merge it. Account progress is kept until you clear it in My learning. Clearing learning does not remove comments, and signing out does not delete saved learning. The site owner operates the database and may access it for maintenance; there is no public profile or public learning leaderboard.
What becomes public
If your comment is approved, its text, display name, submission date, and connection to the post or parent comment become public. Please do not include private or sensitive information you would not want others to read or copy.
Guest display names are not verified. Seeing a familiar name does not establish who wrote a comment. Google sign-in authenticates an account; it is not a promise about someone’s real-world identity.
Sign-in and processing
Choosing Google sign-in loads Google’s sign-in service and shares the identity information needed to authenticate your account with this site. The comment database keeps your display name and Google account identifier, but not your email address, profile photo, or Google password. The account identifier is not public. It is used to sign you in, recognize the site owner, limit abuse, and prevent duplicate submissions.
A secure session cookie keeps you signed in for up to seven days. Signing out revokes that session. A separate, short-lived cookie protects the sign-in process. Neither cookie is used for advertising.
The comment service runs on Cloudflare. Cloudflare Turnstile helps check submissions, and automated spam checks may send your display name and comment text to Cloudflare’s AI service. If you signed in with Google, that display name comes from your Google account. These services process information needed to provide the security check, hosting, and moderation. Avoid putting sensitive personal details in comments.
The application uses a keyed hash of your network address for temporary abuse limits; it does not store the raw address in the comment database. This does not make visits anonymous to Cloudflare. Expired rate-limit and sign-in records are cleaned up daily. Comments and their moderation records remain until the site owner removes them.
Moderation and removal
Comments that pass automatic checks may be published immediately. Others can be held privately for review or rejected. Spam checks are imperfect: they can miss unwanted comments or hold a legitimate one. The site owner can review unpublished comments and remove published comments.
There are no comment email notifications or subscriptions. For questions about sign-in or comments, or to ask for a comment to be removed, email james@lukanta.com. For removal requests, include the post and comment you mean. There is no self-service editing or deletion at present.
